(I so want to do this story justice, but you'll have to excuse me, I'm in a foul mood, having been in dental hell all day today - 3 dentists [in 3 separate offices] in 6 hours! Turns out I have an abscess, yucky, and painful as shit, and need antibiotics. Dammit!)
Yesterday I went on a Sierra Club hike to Mt. Taurus in Cold Spring, NY. It was a nice climb, not too long, good weather. We had lunch at the top and made our way down. My tooth had been bothering me since Friday night, and the climb up was exhausting enough to distract me from my toothache. The way down was much easier though, and I was not comfortable. All I could think about was my tooth and the possibility of getting some ice cream when I got to the bottom. Then I saw a man and two kids walking up the path we were walking down. He got closer, and I saw his face. It was Aidan Gillen. AIDAN friggin' GILLEN!!! Aidan Gillen who
cynima and
zalem and I waited an hour in the freezing cold in the hopes of meeting after seeing The Caretaker. Aidan Gillen the star of the British Queer as Folk. It was so surreal. He walked by and we looked at each other and I said, "Aidan Gillen?" He said yes. I said "I am a huge fan of yours!" He said "Really?" (or something like that, honestly my mind is fuzzy on the whole thing) and said he was taking a walk with his kids. I wasn't sure if that was a cue to back off, so I said enjoy your walk. He then asked my name. That would have been my cue to shake his hand but I was trying so hard to be cool that I didn't. I just told him my name and he smiled and was nice and we waved goodbye and that was it! The other people on the hike had of course no idea who he is. One woman said "He was cute, who was that?" Another couple asked if he was an old friend of mine. I had to explain who he was and why I had suddenly transformed from tired quiet hiker to bibbling starstruck fangirl. It was so surreal. I met Aidan Gillen! In Cold Spring! On a friggin' mountain! I didn't even know he was still in the U.S.! So so weird.
Alright, that was the excitement of my weekend. I have to go pick up my antibiotics and tylenol w/codeine now.
