nycmermaid: (killyourboyfriend)
I have a friend who only sends me mass emails. This is okay, but sometimes I respond to her emails, asking how she is, and for more details on what her last email touched on. For example, she sent out an email last week announcing that she was in the city, living with her parents, and would be presenting her thesis defense soon. I knew she was in grad school for marine biology, so I wrote back asking what her thesis was. No response. Now I got another mass email, announcing that she passed, but still no clue as to what her thesis is! I'm annoyed. This isn't the first time she's ignored my email. If she doesn't want to talk to me, why does she keep me on her mass email list? I didn't suggest that we get together or anything. I was just curious what her thesis was on. This girl and I were friends all through grade school and into high school. We had lunch last year, and we don't seem to have much to talk about anymore, but we both used to want to be marine biologists and I think it's really cool that she actually did it. Why would you want to keep someone up on what you're up to, but not ever respond to their mail? I don't get it.

Now, I realize I am not perfect. I don't respond to every single email either. Sometimes I am busy and just forget, other times I just put it off till I'm in the mood, other times I just don't have anything else to say. But still. I'm not asking for your life story. Just an answer to my little question!

Speaking of people who haven't written back to me...either Nathan is in traction somewhere or he is a big stupid jerkface.

I will make a more positive post shortly...

Tartan Week

Okay, I promised a more positive post, so here it is. Last night [livejournal.com profile] albauk went to see the Peatbog Faeries play in Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall as part of the Tartan Week festivities. But they weren't playing, it was some band called Shooglenifty. We had fun looking at the displays (William Wallace's sword was flown to NY for the occasion), picking up free Scotland swag (mousepads and pens, woohoo!) and trying to win a free trip to Scotland (we didn't). They seem to really want people to move to Scotland. Shosh and I were like, where do we sign up?

Then we went to an Irish pub and drowned our sorrows in pints of Smithwick's. Of course we actually had a really good time. Peatbog Faeries are definitely playing tonight, so we're going back. We first heard them on our tour of the Isle of Skye (I think they're from there) when our guide played their CD on the bus. It was a cool mix of traditional music with a techno beat. I didn't buy the CD when I was there because it would have been $20 with the exchange rate, but I should have anyway.
