Try to fix dropped stitch (and risk further mucking up of something that's supposed to be a gift), don't touch project until you can get to the knitting store tomorrow (so that maybe they can fix it and even teach you how to fix it the next time) or accept the hole as part of life, something that will make the garment more endearing and a reminder that it was handmade.
I'm leaning toward the first one. Because I have no patience, and I really, really wanted to get this thing as perfect as possible, because, well, the person it's for is about the most "perfect" I know.
