So like I've already mentioned, [livejournal.com profile] cynima and I are going on a cruise the week after my birthday. We've narrowed it down to two. She likes this one, 3 days from Miami to the Bahamas, and I like this one, 4 days from New Orleans to Cozumel. Both would probably be great, I just like the 4-day one cause it's longer (for the same price) and Cozumel just sounds cool (I've been to the Bahamas before).

Have any of my friends been to any of these places, and do you have any recommendations?

Bahamas is over-rated...Cozumel is outstanding!

Only thing is, we would only get 1 day in Cozumel. The rest of the time is on the ship.

We only get one day in the Bahamas too, it's just a day and a night instead of just the day.

So I assume this means you would get more than one day if you went to the Bahamas? There's not a lot to do outside of one day in the Bahamas...unless you want to sit on the beach.

I live on the beach so when I go to the Bahamas, Cozumel, Virgin Islands, etc....I don't go to the beach. The Bahamas is expensive too...you're looking at $10 a pop for a beer....Cozumel is much cheaper.

It all depends on what you're looking to do while on vacation.

note: if you decide on the Bahamas...don't let anyone braid your hair.

I really want to just sit on a beach, because I hardly got to to that at all last summer and felt very deprived. I think MD also wants some beach time.

As for things being expensive, we live in NYC--we're used to it!

I would really like to go to Cozumel, but I also want a warm beach vacation, and as much as I love New Orleans, it will be cold there in February!

I want the same thing! Cozumel is guaranteed to be warmer than Miami and the Bahamas. So NOLA won't be warm. We'll only be there at the beginning and the end of the trip anyway. I've been to the Bahamas and I can tell you I wasn't that impressed either.

I've been to the Bahamas a gazillion times and Miami didn't thrill me. New Orleans is one of the coolest places in the universe and I've heard Cozumel is great too.

I vote the second!

New Orleans is wonderful, I agree, and both MD and I have been there.

Only thing is, we would only get 1 day in Cozumel.

I've never been but I'm all about getting my money's worth. I say go for the 4 day one since it's longer for the same price. :) And I don't think too many people really go to Cozumel and that makes you stand out a bit more; it's not so blah. :)

I went on a 7-day Carnival cruise in February 2003, and one of our stops was Cozumel. We sailed out of New Orleans, too. Cozumel was fun. It wasn't my favorite stop on the cruise, but just being on the ship was pretty damn fun -- which you probably already know since you've been on a cruise before (I assume you were on one when you went to the Bahamas?). I dont know if I would agree that Cozumel is less touristy, though. I think any port that major cruise lines stop at is going to be pretty touristy. It felt touristy to me.

Also, regarding the weather in New Orleans -- you really can't tell in that part of country in February. It was cold the day we left on our cruise, but I had been there two weeks before for my bachlorette party, and we didn't even need our jackets. I don't think we needed them the day we got back from the cruise, either. It will almost definitely be warm and beautiful in Cozumel.

If I were you, I'd go Cozumel just because it's a longer trip. I'm like you and want to stretch that vacation out as long as I possibly can. Hope you have fun either way.

I say the 4-day one. Cozumel might be one day only, but so is the Bahamas so that's makes it even on that point. Plus it's a place you've never been to before. It does have a beach too if you want to just loaf around in the sun.
