Day off

I was feeling kind of ick last night, so today I took a day off from work. Maybe it was just a really bad allergy day, but since I was getting that weird hot-chills feeling, I decided it was best to rest up a bit. (And after the blackout, camping, and working till 1 am Monday I could probably use some rest.) I've been trying valiantly to lie down, or read, or just generally stay off the computer, but it's not working very well.

Yesterday I went to Paragon with Shoshana to go shoe and bag shopping for our trip. We ended up getting the same hiking boots, which they only had in green. Alas, we won't be twins though since Shoshana went home and discovered that they do in fact come in gray online. So she's returning hers for the gray. Wasn't that a fascinating story? Also, all the bags there that are at all decent cost at least $200. I really don't want to pay that for a bag I may never need again. Looking online has come up with several well-priced bags, but I don't want to spend $100 on a crappily made bag that will make my back hurt. There's no way my LL Bean bookpack will get me through 2 weeks in Scotland. I gotta think of something.

I have been trying to download the friggin MP3 of the Ataris' cover of Boys of Summer, and every time I get some digitally booby-trapped version that's all garbled in the center. Fuck the RIAA! Sharing music on the net is as much my right as it was to tape songs off the radio in the 80s. Does anyone have a listenable copy they could send me?

Tonight I am going to meet with the "board" about the apartment, though it sounds like this board is only made of one cool-sounding guy who made it sound like this is just a formality. So hopefully everything else was fine and after this, the place is mine!

Meep!

Well it's done... the apartment is mine! Now, my head is exploding. My family is telling me I shouldn't move my stuff in until after I get back from Scotland. My father is not being very forthcoming with information or help, which is not like him. I know he doesn't want his little girl moving out, but I really need his help or at least his support right now. I can only move in on a weekday, so I should probably do the big stuff (my dressers, desk, etc.) next Thursday or Friday while I have the long Labor Day weekend. But I'm going to need help and the only person who can do it and doesn't have to work is my brother.

Also, how am I supposed to move my furniture? I only have 2 or 3 large pieces to move; the rest will have to be delivered when I buy it. Can you believe my parents right this second are actually discussing what I can do with all my new furniture when the year is up if I move back home? Thanks a lot for the vote of confidence, guys. "Or maybe you'll be married in a year," says Mom. Bang head here ----> X

So should I rent a van? A U-Haul? There's no way I can drive a truck. My brother is a fairly confident driver though. (I know you have to be 25 to rent a car, but can my 22-year-old brother drive it?) Should I move in my furniture but not move in the computer, TV, etc. till I get back from vacation? Now mom is saying I should buy everything new. There are so many things I have to buy new though.

How did everyone else handle moving into their first apartment? I know everyone's experience is different, but I have so many questions. I also have to start an account with Con Ed and with the phone company. I guess I should do that before I move in, right?

I can't believe this is all happening right before Ally's wedding and my trip. Oh wait, yes I can.
