Yesterday I walked almost a mile in the pouring rain with [livejournal.com profile] gargoyl to check out an apartment that [livejournal.com profile] em_kraz had clued me in to. Her friend was looking for a roommate and it sounded like a decent deal. I had last spoken to this girl about a week ago, we had emailed back and forth and decided I could come by Tuesday night to look at the place. I know in my first email I sent her my work and cell phone numbers. Anyway, it crossed my mind that I should email her yesterday during the day to make sure she still knew I was coming. I really should have done that. When I got to the apartment I couldn't find her name on the buzzer, so I called her up. Here's how it went:

Me (standing in pouring rain): Hello, is this Melissa?
Melissa: Who is this?
Me: This is Meredith, I was supposed to come look at the apartment today?
Melissa: Oh my... no... oh I'm sorry... I didn't hear from you and... I got a roommate... I didn't have your email address... I'm so sorry...
Me: Um, ok...
Melissa: My friend moved in... it totally slipped my mind... sorry! I'll let you know if I hear about any other places!
Me (walking towards bar across the street): Yea, thanks, no biggie... bye...

So that was lovely. Granted, it was partially my fault for not emailing her before I came just to make sure. But I guess she just automatically deleted my emails (that's the problem with Hotmail people - they get no storage space!). Still, it would have been nice for her to tell [livejournal.com profile] em_kraz or something. I probably wouldn't have taken the place anyway, and I didn't really want to live in Manhattan, but...grumble.

Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] gargoyl and [livejournal.com profile] chisaiboo were meeting [livejournal.com profile] jillyfishie across the street at Telephone Bar, so I joined up with them and had a nice dinner and met their friend [livejournal.com profile] shok who took a great picture of me that I hope he'll post.

It is the worst kind of New York summer day outside, 100% humidity and thunderstorming. It took me an hour to get to work today for no good reason. I am slowly starting to feel like myself again though, here in the air conditioning.

I had to look at like 825630 apts. in the pouring rain because every weekend was horrendous when I was at the height of my apartment hunting - and it really does make it all the more awful and disappointing.
