Yesterday I walked almost a mile in the pouring rain with [livejournal.com profile] gargoyl to check out an apartment that [livejournal.com profile] em_kraz had clued me in to. Her friend was looking for a roommate and it sounded like a decent deal. I had last spoken to this girl about a week ago, we had emailed back and forth and decided I could come by Tuesday night to look at the place. I know in my first email I sent her my work and cell phone numbers. Anyway, it crossed my mind that I should email her yesterday during the day to make sure she still knew I was coming. I really should have done that. When I got to the apartment I couldn't find her name on the buzzer, so I called her up. Here's how it went:

Me (standing in pouring rain): Hello, is this Melissa?
Melissa: Who is this?
Me: This is Meredith, I was supposed to come look at the apartment today?
Melissa: Oh my... no... oh I'm sorry... I didn't hear from you and... I got a roommate... I didn't have your email address... I'm so sorry...
Me: Um, ok...
Melissa: My friend moved in... it totally slipped my mind... sorry! I'll let you know if I hear about any other places!
Me (walking towards bar across the street): Yea, thanks, no biggie... bye...

So that was lovely. Granted, it was partially my fault for not emailing her before I came just to make sure. But I guess she just automatically deleted my emails (that's the problem with Hotmail people - they get no storage space!). Still, it would have been nice for her to tell [livejournal.com profile] em_kraz or something. I probably wouldn't have taken the place anyway, and I didn't really want to live in Manhattan, but...grumble.

Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] gargoyl and [livejournal.com profile] chisaiboo were meeting [livejournal.com profile] jillyfishie across the street at Telephone Bar, so I joined up with them and had a nice dinner and met their friend [livejournal.com profile] shok who took a great picture of me that I hope he'll post.

It is the worst kind of New York summer day outside, 100% humidity and thunderstorming. It took me an hour to get to work today for no good reason. I am slowly starting to feel like myself again though, here in the air conditioning.

Oh. I didn't realize from the context that it was a prearranged thing, put together by Jill (who I don't really know...so I would feel weird inviting myself along from reading her journal, in any case.) I was totally free last night until 9...AND i was rather desperate for something to do, cause Louise was showing my room to a potential new roommate, so I ended up just killing time at work until I decided I had to venture into the rain and pick up my laundry before they cast it out into the street. It doesn't really matter. It just sucks to be reminded that one has absolutely NO life.

wow, if YOU think you have no life, I feel really bad for most people I know!!

anyway, the dinner wasn't planned until 8 and we wound up ordering food at a quarter to nine when [livejournal.com profile] shok made it there...

no life!?! that's why you have so much FREE TIME!! ;)

That's exactly it...between rehearsals and classes and circles, I don't have time to do anything fun. And *because* I don't have any time, and never go out anymore, people just forget about me cause they think I'm way too busy, which means that if I *am* free, I'm always alone. I know that much of this is my own fault...self-imposed exile and all that, but that doesn't make it feel any better.

ps - I didn't think louise was going to get a new roommate, I thought she was going to use it as studio space?

She's not sure what she's going to do. She wanted to have it as studio space, but since she'll be unable to work for a few months after her second operation, in make a lot more financial sense for her to have a roommate. There's someone she knows from Shiseido who's interested (she's the one who saw it last night) and she has another offer from another friend to use it as a crash pad when he works in the city, but he can't afford to kick in very much, so it's all very up in the air at the moment.
