1-bedroom

I have an appointment this evening to see a 1-bedroom apartment in my neighborhood. The apartment is owned by the same management company that owns my building. The lease renewal for my apartment is due soon and I finally called the management office this week to find out if a 1-bedroom might be available somewhere in the neighborhood. They called back yesterday and told me there is one. It's on Woodside Ave right off Doughboy Park. It's a co-op, which to me automatically means nicer building. It would also mean board approval, but I don't see why I wouldn't get that. They'd be willing to work with me transferring my lease if I moved before my lease was up, and since I already rent from them, they said I'd have preference over several other people who are interested. I have to say, I quite like this company, Burnfort Management. They're always quite helpful on the phone and from what I've heard that is not something to be taken for granted.

The only thing is the rent, which is of course at the top of my range. I kind of like having money and don't like the idea of throwing more of it away on rent. But I did just get a raise so I wouldn't really feel the increase that much. And there's no broker's fee, which is a big plus. It's not that I don't like my studio, but it would be nice to have a separate bedroom. I'm not sure if that's just me being greedy though. It's not like I host lots of parties or even have lots of guests. I guess it's just that having an apartment with a separate bedroom would make me feel like a grown-up. (Well, short of owning my own place, which would be the ideal grown-up situation, but this is NYC and let's be realistic.) So I'm going to look at this place and see if having an extra bedroom is worth paying a couple hundred more a month in rent. Whichever way it goes, I'll be happy, I think -- if it isn't good enough I'll stay in my place and save money; if I move I get a bigger, nicer place.

I don't think wanting a one bedroom is being greedy. You're making more money now. Upgrading on the apartment is something well worth your extra income, provided you like the place of course. And hello - no broker's fee! Snap that shit up!
